Volunteer Opportunities
Church Grounds – We need additional mowers added to the team. We have the equipment. Contact: Holly Bogatay, Office Administrator.
Children’s Ministry – As our program is growing, volunteers are needed for Sunday morning programs (10a Classes and 9a/11a Children’s Church) as well as Wednesday night at 6:30p. Contact: Nichole Hall, Children’s Minister.
Kitchen Crew – Chef Kathy Mossburg welcomes volunteers for setup, cooking, and cleanup. Contact: Holly Bogatay
Nursery – As the Nursery is growing, we have the need for additional volunteers on Sunday mornings at 9am.  Your commitment would be just 1 time per month. Contact: Connie Klements, Nursery Director, for more information. 
 
Angel Tree
Don’t forget to return your gifts by December 9.  We will need your help to sort on December 10 at 9:00 am.  Contact Mary Ann Laughlin.

Annual Christmas Musical – The Christmas Post
Saturday, December 8 at 7p and Sunday, December 9 at 4p:  The Christmas Post takes us into a world of ordinary American’s who are reminded about what Christmas is all about.  We hope to see you there!
 
Wednesday Night Dinners
December 12: No dinner, instead, come to the Advent Festival and sample some treats.  See below for details!
 
Advent Festival
Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30 pm: Come join us for a fun-filled night as we prepare for the Christmas season.  
Families will create a set of wooden ornaments as they rotate through stations. After you’ve completed your ornaments join us in the Fellowship Hall to sample some Moravian Advent treats. 
Everyone is welcome to attend!  The cost is $5/family (Pay at check-in). RSVP to Nichole Hall by December 9 with your number of kids and number of adults. 
 
Ladies Christmas Tea

Hasty Elementary School – Reading Tutor
Reading Buddies for Hasty Elementary – Hasty Elementary is in need of Reading Buddies tutors in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades Monday to Friday.  Volunteers are asked to tutor for 30 minutes each session. You can do it once a week or more. Time slots start at 7:30 am and go to 9:45 in the morning and again at noon and continue until 1:30 pm. Interested volunteers must fill out a 2018 Cherokee County Volunteer application and attend a Reading Buddies training session at Hasty. Interested people can contact Mary Ann Laughlin at 404-786-1937. The schedule is posted along with a volunteer application on the Mission bulletin board near the ladies room. 
 
UMCOR – United Methodist Committee on Relief
Please pray for those whose lives have been impacted by Florence. Please also pray for early response teams, disaster coordinators, and the many volunteers who are working tirelessly to provide relief.

Adult Discipleship Opportunity (Grow)

Disciple III (Remember Who You Are):
Remember Who You Are is a 32 week study of the Old Testament Prophets and Paul’s Epistles (Letters to the early Church). This will be a Sunday evening (During Wednesday Night Dinner) session with study commencing Aug 19th and completing by May 19th with breaks for holidays, fall & spring breaks, Easter, Mothers day and etc. There is a desired prerequisite of having completed Disciple I (Full or Fast-Track), if you’ve not and are interested please let us know. Cost is $39.00 per student (scholarships are available). Contact Mark McDougald for details, signup or questions.
 

Downtown Atlanta Homeless Ministry

Our Homeless Ministry visits Atlanta once a month to share the love of Christ with our homeless neighbors. We pray with many that we meet and offer kindness and care (food, hygiene kits) to people who are often ignored or unseen. How can you participate? Donate food or other items. Help with meal preparations or travel to Atlanta with the team.

Sunlight of the Spirit Alcoholics Anonymous

Meetings are held each Friday, 7pm, in Trailer D3. For more information, contact Mike, 770.653.3999.

AL-ANON

Al-Anon is a worldwide fellowship that offers a program of recovery for the families and friends of alcoholics, whether or not the alcoholic recognizes the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help. Alcoholism is a family disease. The program is anonymous and protects the identity of the participants. The group will meet on Friday nights at 7pm in Trailer D4. For questions, call 678.468.6150.

GED Classes

Hickory Flat Church offers free GED classes to anyone 18 years and older. Classes meet on Monday and Thursday evenings, 6-9pm. For additional details, visit our GED page or contact Ronnie Holbert.
