RIO Ministries

Hickory Flat Church has been blessed to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in Mexico since 1998, generally in communities in the Monterrey area.  Our work has included church construction, short-term medical teams, evangelism and VBS.   In 2004, we were one of several churches to help build a community center in an impoverished neighborhood in Apodaca, MX.  By the grace of God, that facility, Pan de Vida (Bread of Life), became a beacon of hope for local residents under the guidance of Pastor Gonzalo Guardiola.  Over the years, both the ministry and the building have expanded, and most importantly, people have come to know the love and joy of a relationship with Jesus Christ!

  • A feeding program, weekly worship services, Bible studies, the Mustard Seed program (for children), and much more are vital components of this ministry.
  • To fulfill Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples”, members of Pan de Vida travel to a neighboring town, Marin, to develop relationships and share the Good News with that community. They rejoice in the gift of God’s grace in their lives and are eager to share it with others.

Pan de Vida is under the umbrella of Rio Ministries, led by Pastor Gonzalo and a faithful Board of Directors.
  • In 2013, the ministry expanded into Nicaragua. Relationships with pastors were developed and churches are being built, both physically and spiritually.
  • A mission team traveled to Nicaragua on July 18-25, 2014.
  • Spring 2015 – a team served at Pan de Vida during Holy Week The team helped with sanctuary/kitchen renovations, led VBS, and     participated in the Mercy Ministry at the hospital. The group also experienced Palm Sunday and Good Friday worship.
  • Fall 2015 – This team was blessed to help build a new classroom space and begin painting the outside of Pan de Vida with a fresh coat of paint. The team also led VBS at three locations and visited an impoverished area that recently experienced a devastating fire.
