Upward Soccer Registration – Spring 2019

Registration opens Saturday, January 26.
  • Early registration cost per child – $105.
  • After February 10, registration cost – $115.
  • Online registration closes at midnight on Saturday, March 2.
  • Additional siblings receive $5 discount from the prior registered child. For example, the third child would be $10 less than first child registered.
  • Optional shorts cost $17.

In order to complete the online registration, you will need to complete payment of the registration fees via a credit card or debit card. If you do not have either, then you will need to purchase a prepaid debit card with sufficient funds to cover the registration fees. A prepaid debit card will need to have been registered in your name via the instructions on the back of the prepaid debit card. Pay-In-Person is no longer an option. If you require financial assistance to participate, please contact the League Director to enquire into availability of scholarship funds that might be available.

Coaching Clinics Replace Player Evaluations

Several Coaching Clinics will be provided and announced at a later date to registered participants that will address several different audiences:

  1. those parents that might be interested in coaching their child’s team but may not have specific soccer experience in their background. I assure you that you can learn quickly what you need to know.
  2. parents that just want to know more about the program and how they can help their child at home to practice certain soccer skills.
  3. kids who want to come out and get a quick start on the season and learn what they should begin to practice.

Equipment Needs and Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Equipment that each player is expected to come to practice with is one soccer ball (size 3 for K4-5 and G1-2, otherwise a size 4), shin guards, and a water bottle.

**It is also required that a parent or guardian be present during the one hour practice session each week.

During Online Registration

There is a new Player Rating spot in the online registration process this season for you to indicate your assessment of your child’s athletic capabilities to help us distribute talent evenly among the teams. Very few players come into the program with any advanced soccer skills, so we aren’t really trying to rate specific soccer skills. There are two dominant traits that seem to standout and make a difference at this level of play. The first is “foot speed”, which is generally an inherited trait, and the other is focused aggressive play, also commonly called a competitive nature. Wanting to, and getting to the soccer ball first is a big advantage in the game situations. Of course, these judgments are all relative to their peer group. If you could respond to this registration question with either Average, Above Average, or Excellent we will try and use that in the team assignment process. There is also a Notes Section where you can convey any other comments you think we should know about your child’s situation.

Please avoid the following mistake during your online registration. We have many families that have more than one day a week that would not work for their practices because of their busy schedules. In these cases, the Notes section should also be used to convey your specific requirements regarding any other days of the week which you can not practice, beyond the regular registration process which allows you to exclude one day of the week. We take all of that into account when we do the team assignments. However, if you do not tell us during the registration cycle that you have more than one day that needs to be excluded, then you are depending upon a roll of the dice to determine if your needs will be met. We use all 5 days of the week for teams to be able to practice. If your requirements change after you have registered, please let us know as soon as possible. Once players are assigned to a team, it becomes very difficult to switch players around after the teams are announced.
